the story of Bruno
Bruno's case demonstrates how we would like every rehab case to be. A call came in to our hotline from the RSPCA. They had had a call from a member of public who had found an injured badger by the roadside. The RSPCA immediately phoned us, giving us an incident number which would cover the cost of any vets bills. We were told that the badger was still breathing, but that it was in a very bad way. The volunteer who was holding the hotline at the time, called the nearest equipped member and sent them on their way. The member of public, who was still with the animal, was advised to keep the badger covered and calm, and reassured that help was on its way. When our member arrived, Bruno was very still, but thankfully alive. He was scruffed, caged and taken straight to the nearest wildlife-friendly vets. Bruno was found to be suffering from just a few broken teeth and a few cuts and bruises. He spent the weekend at the vets recovering from slight concussion, and was returned to his sett on the Monday, watched by two of our members, and the girls who had found him. |
