Regional Roundup-Spring 2012

HALSTEAD- Neil Yeo

There have been plans for more electric pylons in my section (badger capital of North Essex I think) and other sections. In my opinion burying those wires underground would be a good resolution for us mere mortals BUT it would probabaly mean more devastation for the Brocks. Its great that the badger baiting has been put on high alert. I have never seen anything so cruel and heartbreaking in my life! To kill something in this way is beyond belief and to get pleasure from it????

BRAINTREE - Renee Hockley-Byam

This is the peak time for badger casualties so we've been kept fairly busy since cubs have been born over the last couple of months and the boars have been moving around much more. Very soon cubs will be coming above ground for their first forays so its a good time to get out and watch badgers. Please get in touch if you'd like to help us at a show this summer.

TENDRING - Gill Hagger

A regular talking point in our news has been the Harcich/Dovercourt badgers. A sett has been identified nad surprise, surprise an additional sett within this area has also been recorded. Tendring still has some very substantial planning sites under consideration but a proposed mineral extraction site at Gt Bromley has been refused.

MALDON - Rhon Kempster

Maldon and Dengie Section have had a reshuffle. We do not have a Section Leader now but work together as conglomerate, with all leadership responsibilites being divided up amongst the members. We do go to a lot of country shows and village Fayres where Shaun the 'Badgerman' can usually be found. We have a lot of fun as well as the serious side of 'badgering'. If anyone would like to join us at our meetings, you would be most welcome.

COLCHESTER - David Jones

As a whole, the section is doing fine. Most of the setts are displaying signs of great activity with the arrival of new cubs. We had a slight scare the other month when ECC included the quarries in the area of Stanway Fruit Farm as part of their WDD strategy. Fortunately due to public outrage and the fact that a badger sett was in the area the ECC changed their mind.
